Starting in a quaint little hovel where 2 kids are sleeping soundly, Jack and Tess: Finding Monsters Adventure is a virtual reality game that brings the user into the kid’s colorfully outlandish (in a good way) dream. Here, you’ll meet many adorable creatures, such as the bouncy Prankster as well as the dog-like P-Rex. You’ll then need to try to get these creatures to assume various poses that you need in order to complete the level.

Eager to get started? Well, you’ll need to first learn how to play the game, and this is helpfully shown to you via the in-game tutorial. That being said, the controls and instructions in this game are fairly straightforward and easy to grasp.

In this game, you will be given 3 different worlds to choose from, namely grassland, ice mountain and the moon. Each subsequent world will be unlocked as you complete the previous worlds, and in each world, you are given 5 different levels, or locations, to explore. For example, in grassland, you will need to go through all 5 levels - rumbly tumbly, double trouble, spring pop, puppy tricks, and harry royale.

Furthermore, every level in this game has 5 objectives, or “dares” as the game calls them, that you will need to complete. Most of them involve taking photos of the creature in the scene performing a certain pose, such as sticking its tongue out or chasing after its tail. You can take a photo in this game by tapping the center of the touchpad of your GearVR. It may sound simple enough, but it can be tricky to get the creature to do as you want it to do. This is where the thought or speech balloons come in.

Every now and then, the creature will have a speech or thought balloon right beside its head. By looking at the balloon and swiping forward on your touchpad, you’ll then be able to pop the balloon. These balloons will change how the creature behave, and which balloons you pop will determine which reaction you'll get. Sometimes, certain combinations may lead to a whole new, and possibly cute, behavior that you have never seen before. The combinations between popping and not popping these balloons are not endless, but whatever’s available in this game is more than enough to keep you engaged for quite some time!

That’s not all; the game also provides you with a countdown timer of around 1 minute to take all the shots that you need to complete the level. The time you have left in the level is helpfully shown on your screen. The number of films that you’re given is limited as well, so be sure of the quality of your shot before actually tapping your touchpad to take a photo. It may take quite a bit of trial and error before you can get a level completed, but once you’ve figured out how the game works, you’ll be able to truly enjoy the game.

Tickets are obtained for every completed dare, and you’ll get 1 more bonus ticket once the entire list of dares is cleared. Be sure to get as many tickets as you can because these tickets are the key to unlocking the other worlds (and scenes) in Jack and Tess: Finding Monsters Adventure. Naturally, you are allowed to play as many times as you like in order to maximize the number of tickets you get per level.

The game itself also features some outstanding graphics that are both cartoony and brightly colored. These visuals, when coupled with some amazing sound effects, have managed to bring the entire fictional world of a dreaming little kid to life. It is definitely an incredible experience, even by virtual reality standards.

All in all, Jack and Tess: Finding Monsters Adventure is most certainly a virtual reality game that will appeal to the inner-child of every gamer. The bright colorful graphics in addition to the adorable cloth-made creatures, add a certain amount of charm to the game. The gameplay is also very unique... in fact, who would have thought photo-taking could be a great basis for a virtual reality game, right? Although movement is blocked, which is a bit of a pity, you can still see and feel the beautiful world around you.
